You will know about the plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the four day bank holiday from the 2nd to the 5th of June.

This note is about what comes afterwards – the legacy of the Jubilee. The Queen’s Green Canopy is an invitation to people up and down the country to plant trees to mark the Jubilee and to leave a lasting legacy.

A small group consisting of Richard Palmer, Roger Buswell, Richard Zakss, Ron Stern and Gillie and Nicko King has been meeting to come up with plans for Cuddesdon and Denton to take part in this initiative. 

First and foremost, we propose to plant a tree on the recreation ground on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday during our shared picnic on the recreation ground. It will be at the top of the new steps in the corner of the recreation ground, where trees have been lost in the winds this winter. 

Later on this autumn, with the support of the Parish Council, we will be replacing the two trees which had to be cut down in the High Street by School View, opposite the Village Hall.

Another possibility is to create a community orchard, if we can find a suitable piece of land.

Finally, watch this space for a village wide initiative this autumn, when the tree planting season starts again. We will have a speaker from Wild Oxfordshire to talk about tree planting initiatives around the county. There is also an offer of free trees to anyone who wants them from Richard Zakss who has a growing collection of seedling trees which need homes.
