ANNUAL REVIEW 2008-2009
The President and Committee are delighted to say that this has been an excellent year with our membership remaining at 19.
We have had very interesting speakers on many subjects. In April Mr. John Paxton gave us a talk on Water Gardens aided by Katrina Sheldon and Euan Mackintosh. Mrs. Carol Hawkins came to show us how to do tied bouquets and make ribbon bows – which we all had a go at this with varying degrees of success! Mr. Hedges spoke to us about metal detecting and brought along a very large and interesting collection of artefacts. Mrs. Celia Crook showed us how to make and wear hats, which was great fun. (One of Mrs. Crook’s hats is now being worn regularly by a member of our group). We were given a demonstration of bag making and embroidery by Christine Green and in October Susie Bond showed us how to make interesting outside winter flower arrangements and pansy balls. (One of the pansy balls was given as a raffle prize and can now be seen hanging in a member’s garden) In November we made our own edible Christmas tree decorations with the help of Susan Palmer.
We had two lunches at Brookes University Restaurant, one in April and our Christmas celebrations in December.
In August we visited Basildon House for a guided tour and lunch which we greatly enjoyed by all.
In September some of our members went to the Boundary Group Meeting to hear Paul Mayhew talk about his time as co-writer of the Vicar of Dibley. It was also Cuddesdon and Denton’s turn to run the Sales Table.
During the year we have raised funds by catering for teas at the Nuffield Hospital, a buffet tea for an AGM at Littlemore and for teas and suppers for various coach parties in our own Village Hall.
All in all a busy and enjoyable year and thanks go to all members for their help and support.
