The fireworks evening was a great success again this year. 167 tickets were sold, almost covering the cost of the fireworks.
There was only one entrant for the guy competition (made by a girl called Ashley), but I think it is the best guy I have ever seen. Thanks to everyone who made the evening such a success, particularly Martin Smith and his staff from the Bat and Ball who supplied the excellent food, and Colin Hessey who organised buying the fireworks, and helped set them up and let them off. The fireworks evening is the Parish Council’s major event every year, so it is heartening that it remains popular.
SODC have decided that the garage being built at 23 High Street does not need planning permission, because it was substantially commenced before 1st October 2008. The owners had taken advice from SODC, who had recommended that they start the building before then. In October 2008 the rules about developments which did not need planning permission became more stringent, but the building conforms to the requirements which applied before then.
A new planning application for housing and some offices at Dove House Farm is going to be submitted soon. Savills are the agents for Magdalen College (who own Dove House) and they are in negotiation with SODC about the development. The new plans will be similar to those submitted some years ago, but will include some affordable housing. Savills are keen to explain the plans to the village although this will have to be soon after submission of the application, because only a short time is allowed to respond to SODC before they make their decision on the proposal.
There was considerable discussion at November’s Parish Council meeting about the Parish Plan. Concerns had been expressed about how the data from the survey was being interpreted as far as any proposed changes in the village were concerned. As a result of this the Parish Plan Committee are going to rethink how they present the plan.
