A public meeting was held at the end of March to discuss the planning applications for Dovehouse Farm (P10/W0093 and P10/W0094/LB) and Ripon College (P10/W0241).
The meeting was well attended and there was lively discussion about the applications. Following the public discussion, the Parish Council decided what their view was.
The Dovehouse Farm development is for five new houses, and conversion of some existing barns to three more houses and some offices. The Parish Council is generally in favour of the development, because it will introduce a mix of additional housing to the village, and replacement of the farm will result in the removal of the unsightly and dilapidated farm buildings, reduce the number of agricultural traffic movements through the village, and eliminate the environmental impact of the modern farming activities, such as the noise and smell.
However, the Parish Council decided to recommend refusal of the application because of the difficulty of access to the site along the narrow lane, with access to nearly all the houses at the corner near Wellbourne. There is also a suggestion that streetlights and a pavement could be added to the lane, and the Parish Council is opposed to this because it will damage the character of the area.
The Parish Council’s full response to the application can be viewed on the village website.
The Parish Council recommended acceptance of the Ripon College application. Some reservations were expressed that this development might cause an increased number of cars to be parked on the Wheatley Road. Also, there were concerns about the routing of the contractors’ traffic during the building phase, which is likely to last about a year.
Finally, also on planning matters, permission has been granted by the District Council for replacement of an extension at Hill House in Denton (P10/W0085).
