Richard Palmer, who is the churchwarden, attended June’s meeting to discuss the upkeep of the churchyard.
The cost of the upkeep is fairly expensive and the Parish Council makes a contribution towards it each year. Richard is eager to purchase some new mowing equipment and the possibility of obtaining a grant for this through the Parish Council is being investigated.
There was a village consultation in June concerning making improvements to Cuddesdon Green. 23 people attended and handed in responses. The overwhelming view from 15 respondents was that the row of evergreen trees should be removed. There was also a strong feeling that the horse chestnut tree should be retained. Other suggestions included the planting of shrubs, and the inclusion of a bench and a memorial. There is a sub-committee to investigate development of the Green and they are analysing the results before proposing the next step.
There has been a request to extend the planning application for the building of a side extension at 23 High Street (P10/W0638/EX). The Parish Council have recommended approval of this application although they are concerned that a garage has been built to the front of the property since the application was first made three years ago.
Two other applications have been made recently, and the Parish Council have recommended approval of both of them. They are an amendment to the Ripon College development (P10/W0241) and an application to build a two storey extension at 16 Denton Hill (P10/W0745).
The Parish Council are concerned about the increased incidents of parking on the pavements and verges. They intend to notify offenders and ask them to be more courteous to pedestrians. The police have advised that parking which blocks the pavement so pedestrians have to walk round is illegal.
