Phil Brown of Savills attended the Parish Council meeting at the end of August to discuss the Dovehouse planning application and explain how the proposal was progressing.
The District Council’s planning officer is yet to be convinced of the merits of the application. Also, Savills are very conscious of the objections raised by the Parish Council and objections from nearby residents, particularly with regard to the narrowness of the access lane, car and pedestrian access to the site, and the suggestion that there should be street lights and a footpath along the lane to Wellbourne corner.
The County Council Highways Department’s objections have now been published by SODC, and can be viewed on the planning application website. They are not in favour of the development for all the same traffic and access reasons. They have also pointed out that the bus service to the village would not be sufficient for people working in the proposed offices.
At the meeting, Savills acknowledged the objections concerning the street lamps and footpath. Phil Brown said they would investigate the possibility of there being a footpath across the churchyard instead. They were also looking at changing the car access to the site, to avoid nearly all the traffic needing to use the entrance at Wellbourne corner.
Nick King has decided that he wants to resign as a parish councillor. Nick was largely responsible for installation of the basketball surface on the Recreation Ground, and also led development of the Parish Plan. The Parish Council is eager to co-opt somebody onto the council to take Nick’s place.
The Parish Council has been concerned about small children running from the recreation ground onto the road through the gap next to the village hall, so a gate has now been put there, erected by Paul Sellar.
