January’s Parish Council meeting was exceptional in that it was held in the church because the village hall was being decorated, and because it was attended by more than 60 people who were there to discuss a possible footpath through the churchyard.
This was a proposal put forward by Savills who are the developers for Dovehouse Farm, so that pedestrians would have good access to the village from the new development. The Parochial Church Council was eager to hear villagers views. There was considerable opposition to having a footpath through the churchyard, and nearly everyone at the meeting was opposed to there being lighting if a connecting footpath is run next to the road, even if the lighting is at low level.
The Parish Council has recommended approval of the application for a two storey side extension at 15 Denton Hill (P11/W1713), and the District Council has granted this. Since this application was granted, the applicant has sought permission to erect a two storey rear extension at the property as well. He wants this to be a permitted development, so it would fall within the rules meaning it would not need planning permission.
The Parish Council has recommended approval of an application for the installation of solar panels on the roof of the squash court at Denton House (P11/W1895 and P11/W1691/LB). The District Council has dismissed the appeal against conditions attached to an application for erection of a two storey extension at 8 Bishop’s Wood (P11/W0955).
The Parish Council has been asked whether it would be possible to speed up broadband provision to the village, particularly by having fibre optic connection from Virgin, but Virgin have stated that it is not their intention to provide a fibre optic network here.
At December’s meeting it was agreed to raise the precept from £6,500 to £7,000. This is the amount the Parish Council receives each year, paid from the council tax. This is the first increase in the precept for four years.
