The District Council has approved the application for an extension at 44 High Street (P09/W0087) despite the Parish Council’s objections. The Parish Council’s reason for objecting to the application was because of the proposed broadening of the entrance to the property which will reduce the amount of road parking space.
The Parish Plan survey has shown that villagers are particularly concerned about the amount of available road parking in the village, and one of the affected areas is the High Street.
Because the Parish Council’s view seems to have been disregarded, they are inviting representatives from both the District Council and the County Council (who had no objection to the effect of the development on the highway) to the next Parish Council meeting. The Parish Council’s opinion is largely determined by their understanding of the local situation and their appreciation of local views, but it appears that there may be little merit in expressing an opinion, certainly as far as this planning application is concerned.
The Parish Council always welcomes early discussion of any proposed planning application, so they can act in the best interest of the applicant and the community, and avoid any possible conflict. At present, the first knowledge the Parish Council usually has of an application is about three weeks before it is considered by SODC’s planning committee.
April’s Parish Council meeting was shorter than usual because it was followed by the Annual Parish Meeting where all the village organisations gave reports on their activities. The police also sent a report to the meeting and advised that arrests have been made with regard to two local issues, the theft of older motor vehicles which are then used in crimes, and the spate of armed robberies.
