January 2009
We launched the Parish Plan at the Village Bonfire in 2007. Over 180 people turned up to watch the fireworks, enjoy a hot dog and learn about the Parish Plan. There was a display from the Oxfordshire Rural Community Council, as well as displays from various village organisations. There was also a plentiful supply of Post-it notes and pens. People were asked to use them to comment on what they liked about the village and what they would like to change.
There was no doubt that we love our village and that we want to make the most of it. Some of the issues raised included:
-
improving the village hall;
- the possibility of a village shop;
- parking in the High Street and on Denton Hill;
- better village amenities, particularly for young people;
- more affordable and sheltered housing;
- a possible village design statement;
In response, we held four meetings in early 2008 to discuss in more detail:
- affordable housing;
- parking;
- village shop;
- the appearance of the village.
In July we collaborated with the Village Hall Committee to feed-back some of the findings at the Summer Fayre, with a particular focus on young people. We then put on our thinking caps and designed the village survey with the help of SODC, OCC and the ORCC. This was finally distributed during December 2008.
